With day 3 of this season's training camp opening up one thing has become quite evident from coach Craig Ramsay and his staff and that is to expect the unexpected. For the fans that means thinking outside the box, not defining any player, it seems, by a previous position or role with this club.
The Rammer came into the organization and before the players ever took the ice in a "official" team function the decision had been already made to take Dustin Byfuglien and move him back to defense. Moving Buff back seemed rather elementary from management by the way they tell it, but nonetheless, it was a move that I don't think the ordinary fan was expecting. Then we get to camp and see that he's moved Little back to center and put Peverley on the wing.
I think that the message to us fans should be that he's seeing more skills in a player than just a single position, he's willing to break out of preconceived molds and try something different. I think that you'll see, before the camp is through that Ramsay will move other players into positions or roles that we as fans hadn't considered before. I'm not saying they'll stay there..but I think the Rammer is looking to see just what skills these guys have and how to get the most out of them.
