Thrashers Buried In An Avalanche

Last night Colorado buried the Thrashers in an Avalanche with a come from behind win capped off with a 9 second over time. With the game in hand Atlanta let it slip away trying to play it safe and not working hard enough on defense.

What can you say about last night? Really...overall our team played great last night..up until the last period...well not even the full period...but enough to watch our 3-1 lead erode. The solitary overtime point is cold comfort for the effort put into the game and quite honestly between the two teams on the ice...we needed it more.

One the good side of the ledger, our PK has returned to October form and has been extremely effective in shutting down opposition man advantages. Bergfors looks like he's been playing with his line mates all season. Moose is still a rock and Bryan Little looks like he's decided that since there's not a particular Russian from Tver on the ice he might as well step up and score some goals.

On the bad side of the ledger, how about 4 players standing their pulling their taffy while Cumiskey skates in like he owns the joint and buries one past the Moose, a mere 9 seconds into overtime. Remind fans of another fast goal? Say the one in Nashville just a mere 7 seconds into the 3rd period..that was the game winner that night by the way.

I'm stymied by how our players can think they can put in a half assed effort on defense and expect to win the game. I guess it's good to be under contract, because if I gave effort like that at work I'd be out looking for a job. You can't just wave your stick in front of a forward and think he's going to let up and say.."Oh you're waving your stick..I guess I won't be able to score now" give me a frickin' break.

While we pull out of Denver with a point in our hands...knowing we surrendered the other when we had that game well in hand is a very hard pill to swallow. The Thrashers may very well look back on this game in April and think to themselves that if they had won the game in Colorado they might be playing more than the regularly scheduled 82 games.

Next on tap is the Minnesota Wild. This is a game that we SHOULD win, and honestly I hate to use the cliche phrase but it's really a MUST win..hell at this point every game is. This team has looked more competitive in the last two weeks than it has since middle November and we're struggling to win because they've lost the killer instinct to put teams away. Anybody know Tony Robbins' number...we'll call him up and maybe he can talk to the team.
