Hurricane Staal Wrecks Phillips

Last night the Thrashers laid down for the Hurricanes in a 5-2 loss to help cement their run to mediocrity. I don't even know where to begin with how disgusted I am with last night's performance. With an opportunity to carve a meaningful place in the Eastern Conference standings and position themselves to take destiny by the hand, to forge their own path, the Thrashers did what has become to most Thrasher fans what they do best, they laid down and let their opponent dictate their destiny for them.

From the top down this team wasn't trying to fight fate last night. I consider the goals scored by Pevs and Army as nothing more than face saving goals, the damage had already been done. My list of criticism is long but here are just a few:

  • The PK allowed 3 goals out of 4 Carolina powerplays
  • The PP couldn't hit water if it fell out of a boat it went 0-6
  • When down by say 2 or 3 goals it might have been nice to see Boults or Thorbs drop gloves to get some mojo working.
  • I'm kinda split down the middle on my feeling about pulling Pavs so I'll let that one go.
Overall our play was horrible last night, and with as good as Kovy looked on Tuesday he looked equally as bad last night. I think I saw him lose his edge and fall about 4 or 5 times (whoa..that ice sure is slippery)

We are now in 10th place and fighting to regain our solitary hold on 2nd place in the division because Florida is playing like they want something. Tampa is nipping at our heels and we may find ourselves looking up at most of the rest of the division if we don't fix our problems.

Last night was another example of this team not coming out ready to play. I said in my last post that Carolina couldn't be underestimated and last night they showed why. Next we have Tampa we MUST win that game.

Well said. We expected Carolina to lie down for us and instead, we're the ones that got trampled. If it's a must-win, they will lose. They can't handle the pressure of being good apparently.
